Interview Locations

Aside from any permission issues, there are three main factors to balance when deciding where to conduct an interview: the overall look; background sounds; light levels.

Most technically critical is firstly, the level of background sound - too loud and it won't be possible to distinguish what the interviewee is saying. We can use highly directional microphones but there is still a threshold above which it's not possible to capture usable audio. The hum of office activity is usually fine; by the roadside with heavy traffic less so.

Second, is the type and level of lighting. Our cameras work well with almost any situation indoors or out, and we can also supply additional lighting where required.

Possibly the one major challenge is sunny with cloudy intervals. While the camera can handle the contrast in light levels, there can be an extremely marked difference between cloudy or sunny footage. If time allows, it is often possible to opt for one or the other by simply choosing the moment.

The third factor is the most subjective: the overall look or aesthetic you want to convey to the viewer. Most clients will choose a location which helps positively showcase the focus of their business or organisation. It could be at a premises or on location at some form of work site. Common approaches include having prominent branding materials; visible products, company vehicles or even staff active in the background. There is always scope for experiment to identify what works best.

Context Footage Locations

Context footage is often sourced from the same location as interviews. This can help with continuity and strengthen the narrative link between what is said by interviewees and what shown. In addition it is also routine to use establishing material which can help set the broader context. From a technical standpoint it is possible to capture context footage almost anywhere and anytime. If necessary, our cameras and lenses can work in most types of weather conditions you might encounter in Scotland and the wider UK.

Event Locations

We go wherever our clients need us, and  have worked in a diverse range of venues, from The Orkney Theatre, to the Glasgow City Chambers. Events have included award ceremonies, conferences, concerts, launch events, seminars, talks and panels.

Key considerations in these types of setting
revolve around the expertise to set up in locations which optimise results whilst being safe and discrete for audience and participants. Our core system includes premium telefoto lenses. These allow close up on stage detail from the rear of halls and other large spaces.
